FIS Rollerski World Cup 2009
at Lake Markkleeberg
Greetings from Peter Schlickenrieder
Vicepresident of the German Ski Association
„The future is northern“
Shortly after the winning of my silver medal in the Olympic games in Salt Lake City in 2002
I provided tumult with this saying in the alpine-stamped ski family.
This statement meant to me the beginning of my mission – basically to bring as many
people as possible to the sport and with it to a better life.
This central idea bases all of my projects. The northern sport has something to offer what no other sport has. There is no stop neither before snowy shortage nor before movement gripers and offers to everybody an almost endless field with guaranteed feelings of happiness, from the beginner up to the pro, from young to old and from the performance up to the leisure sportsman Nordic Walking made the sports entrance possible to many people, it has given an understanding of movement alternatives to many ski sportsmen and has woken up above all the desire for northern sport in all his facets.
With the rollerskiing we have not only won another important alternative for the time without snow, but it is also another possibility to win ski sportsmen. Stamped by the quick sliding on roles it has already developed his quite own fascination and year after year more sportsmen get attracked. Originally developed from the cross-country training Rollerski sets up as an independent sport with a worldwide working world cup series.
Besides, the World Cup in Markkleeberg, which already takes place the third time, is an important multiplier for rollerskiing and is a talking point outside of Germany. Whether on snow or on asphalt - the new experience of the planing and nordic movements is pure luck again and again.
With our DSV nordic actively education concept we offer all associations, trainers and enthusiasts a perfect entrance help into rollerskiing via nordic blading. To all who are not already a rollerskier and look for a gentle entrance for themselves or as a trainer, it is recommended one of our DSV nordic actively training centres to receive the first feeling of planing on the role via nordic blading.
That’s why I’d like to thank all involved people for their commitment and the competitors for their very important model function.
In this sense I wish all fair competitions and a successful „northern future“ and above all a lot of fun with northern sports!
Yours Peter Schlickenrieder
