Review FIS Rollerski Worldcup 2007

The Roller Ski World Cup 2007 was a great success at Lake Markkleeberg. From 13th to 15th June the third out of five FIS World Cups in Roller Ski took place at Lake Markkleeberg.

Several thousand inspired spectators experienced the thrilling World Cup competitions, sprint duels and the entertaining multicultural program at the white water park and around Lake Markkleeberg.

The Highlight last year was the 30 km long pursuit for men and 20 km for woman on Sunday. With 30 degrees in the shade it was really hot and not only an extreme challenge for the athletes. But despite the climatic environmental requirements, athletes and organizers too did a great job with thrilling races and a well prepared competition track.

Superior athlete on this hot World Cup Weekend was the Swede Maria Magnusson. She won the Sprint and the pursuit competition as well. The men competitions were both won by the Italians. Emanuele Sbabo was the winner of the Sprint duel and his fellow countryman and top favourite Alfio di Gregorio was the best in the pursuit finals. The best German athlete was Julia Köckritz from Saxony with her second place in sprint and third place in pursuit (Junior woman).

“All members of the FIS committee have commended the World Cup premiere in last year”, is the assistant leader of the organizer committee Mr. Mathias Baldeweg very pleased. The international (FIS) and the German Ski federation (DSV) were very happy about the excellent organisation of the first FIS Roller Ski World Cup in Markkleeberg. They recommended that the World Cup takes place at the Lake again in 2008.

We, the organizing committee of the FIS Roller Ski World Cup 2008, are therefore very pleased to realize this big event in Markkleeberg again in this year!
